En confinement avec nous, nos djs préférés. Très énervés par le climat sanitaire et politique actuel, iels ont mis au monde, en peu de temps, des bébés musicaux ni contaminés ni condamnés. Depuis Londres, on continue avec le maître de l’acid : CHRIS LIBERATOR. Au programme : une hard techno qui twiste dans un pochon d’acid, de quoi fermer les yeux, et te croire dans un champs, en plein soleil, les systèmes sons plus remontés que jamais, il est 12 h et t’as dansé toute la nuit… Ça tombe bien, on a plus que ça à faire, fermer les yeux, et… raver !

Voici un mix vinyle que j’ai enregistré en urgence dans les locaux de SUF (Stay Up Forever, une maison de disque, ndlr), pour utiliser les platines, avant que tout ne soit complètement fermé et qu’on soit confinés. J’ai essayé d’enregistrer ça pas trop fort, car dans les bureaux d’à côté il y avait un rendez-vous, mais quand j’y pense, je me dis que j’aurais dû mettre le son bien plus fort car de toute façon on a fini par venir frapper à ma porte pour me dire que le son était trop fort. Donc bref, c’est un mix de 50 minutes, énervé et assez brut de forme, qui s’inscrit dans le moment présent où figurent hard techno et acid, pour exprimer au mieux les sentiment contradictoires, l’impuissance et la frustration que je ressens actuellement. Mais c’est aussi un cri de colère destiné à la gestion de cette pandémie par notre système, à la panique causée par les médias, et toute ces désinformation qui en a découlé (la plupart des gens n’ont aucune idée de ce qu’est vraiment ce virus ou peut-être qu’ils font semblant de ne pas comprendre). Ajouté à cela, les magasins vidés par la vague de panique. Incroyable non ??!! La véritable pandémie dans tout ça ? C’est la panique qu’elle a engendrée, pas le coronavirus en lui-même.. Le système adore nous garder dans la peur et la machine médiatique a juste fait son job en créant encore plus d’angoisse que nécessaire.

Après, bien sûr, certaines inquiétudes sont légitimes, notamment celles des travailleurs qui n’ont pas de protection sociale (ou même ceux qui n’ont pas de contrat ou travaillent par missions), celles également des gens comme moi, ou comme beaucoup de mes amis et de mes proches, qui n’ont actuellement pas de travail et sont à leur compte, dans les secteurs du divertissement, de l’événementiel, ou même de l’enseignement privé, des chauffeurs de taxi, etc (le gouvernement nous a promis le soutien de 80 % des salaires pour tous, mais et nous dans tout ça ??). Les craintes sont légitimes dans le cas de gens qui souffrent d’infection -les plus âgés, ceux qui ont un système immunitaire assez faible ou des problèmes respiratoires- qui sont sans doute seuls ou juste isolés. Je pense à l’inquiétude des travailleurs dans nos hôpitaux mal foutus et sous-équipés, qui doivent désormais supporter tout le poids de cette crise sur leurs épaules. Je m’inquiète, enfin, pour les SDF qui eux, ne sont pas protégés du tout : où peuvent-ils s’isoler eux, quelqu’un se le demande ?!

Mais de tout ça, en ressort aussi quelque chose de très positif. On est tous bloqués, confinés, mais on reste proches, en contact, on doit s’entraider et se soutenir les uns les autres. Ce virus, ce n’est ni Ebola ni la Peste, si tu es en bonne santé et que tu mènes une vie plutôt saine, tu choperas tout au plus un gros rhume et les symptômes d’une grippe, tu n’en mourras pas. Les stigmates de cette infection semblent être encore pires que les symptômes réels. Reste chez toi et ne transmets pas ce truc aux autres si tu l’as. Ce sont les plus faibles, ceux déjà malades ou plus âgés, que nous devons protéger à tout prix.

Ce n’est pas la fin du monde, on va traverser cette crise et éventuellement, voir le bout du tunnel. On doit garder ESPOIR et aller de l’avant. C’est le rôle de l’acid dans ma mixtape, montrer qu’on se relèvera de tout ça, plus fort et plus décidés que jamais à faire la fête. J’espère que ce mix va donner de l’inspiration à celles et ceux qui l’écouteront, mais aussi représenter une sorte de soulagement en ces temps incertains et étranges. Beaucoup de nouveaux tracks à te mettre sous la dent, et pour le coup, il n’y a aucun mal à répandre le virus de l’acid, alors faites tourner cette mixtape ! Here is a vinyl mix I recorded hurriedly at SUF HQ on the turntables there before complete lockdown makes any non-essential movement impossible. I tried to record it quietly as next door’s unit had a last minute client in for a meeting – I obviously must have been turning it up as I got in to it as he eventually banged on the door to complain about the noise – therefore its only 50 minutes long instead of an hour! It’s an angry mix, in the moment and unpolished – hard techno and acid born out of mixed feelings of frustration and impotence – but also against the system’s response to the ‘pandemic’ – the media panic that has caused such dis-information to be circulated (most people have no idea what the virus actually does to you or how to avoid catching it), and the fact that the supermarkets have been cleaned out as people panic buy – unbelievable??!. The PANIC is the pandemic, not just the virus itself. The system loves to keep us in FEAR and the media machine has done a good job of creating more worry than is necessary.

Of course there are real worries..worry for those who are in jobs with no financial protection (on zero contracts or casually employed), worry for those like myself and many of my friends and families who have no work now as they are self employed and work in entertainment/clubs/theatres/restaurants/recreation/private teachers/taxi drivers etc.(the government has guaranteed 80 percent wages for everyone else, but not us??)
Worry for those who are in danger from infection – the elderly, and those with weak immune systems and respiratory conditions – who may be alone or isolated. Worry for the key workers in our badly underfunded hospitals who now have to take the brunt of this crises upon themselves. Worry for the homeless who have no protection at all – where the hell do they ‘self isolate’?
But positivity too – we are all in lockdown and isolation, but we remain close and in contact, we must help and support each other.
The virus is not Ebola or Bubonic Plague – if you are fit and healthy, then it is likely you will get a cough and some flu llike symptoms if you catch it – similar to other nasty viruses, but not deadly. The stigma of infection seems to be worse than the actual symptoms. Stay in and don’t spread it to others if you do contract it. It is the the elderly,and those with weaker immune systems and respiratory problems we need to protect.

This is not the end of the world, we will get through this and come out the other side. We nust have HOPE and an eye on the future. Like the acid in the music, we will rise again, stronger and more ‘avin it!!! Hope this mix gives you some inspiration and relief during these uncertain and strange times . Pro techno is al jaren in een adem te noemen met oldschool techno / acid techno. Op 17 oktober nodigt Pro Techno de Britse bemanning van Stay Up Forever uit. In samenwerking met het grootste acid techno label van de UK haalt Pro Techno een aantal Stay Up Forever exclusives uit de acid techno scene naar Tilburg.

Chris Liberator is een van de grondleggers van het London 303 geluid, een leider van Rebel Culture en een icoon in acid techno. Deze man belichaamt de geest van acid techno en vertegenwoordigd al jaren deze scene. Na 20 jaar is Chris nog steeds volledig gewijd aan de acid techno waar hij, met de andere twee Liberators; Julian en Aaron, in 1991 deel van uitmaakte.
