* LEYLA P *

Leyla P is an up and coming female force behind the decks currently playing Techno and Acid Techno on the London underground party circuit. But her passion for music and DJ’ing began way back in the early 90’s, playing old skool hardcore every Sunday on the pirate radio station Energy FM based in south London.

These DJ Sunday sessions lasted two years, 1992-1994, and soon led her to play on the London free party scene circuit in the mid to late 90’s for sound systems such as Vox Populi (one of the original free party sound systems), Underground Sounds and Manik.

Around this time, she also played old skool hardcore at a couple of Spiral Tribe parties and had a guest slot playing at Turnmills night club, which was buzzing in the late 90’s.

After a few twists and turns in life, Leyla moved to Spain and went in a different direction. But over the years that DJ itch kept returning and on her return to the UK, Leyla finally rekindled her passion for the music and returned to the wheels of steel.

Over the last year she has been back on the London underground party circuit spinning vinyl nearly every weekend for sound systems such as E1S and Hackney Sounds and loving every minute!!

* DJ Zebedee * International London Underground Since 1993

For all you underground techno music heads who don’t know, Zebedee is an established and highly respected techno DJ who made his mark playing on various sound systems for the underground party scene and running the legendary Trancentral party nights in mid-late 90’s. He has been djing in the London underground party scene since 1993, and is world renowned for his distinctive Hard/funky/Tribal acid sets.

His passion for DJ-ing and the free party scene began at aged 16 when he lived in a squat with a crew called The Rainbow Tribe, after helping the crew run an information stall at Tribal Energy night at the Rocket venue in north London, Zebedee (known as Zeb) landed his first gig and soon became a monthly resident at the club.

During the early/mid 90s he teamed up with mate Lawrence to form an underground system called Restless Natives, and the pair were soon organising underground squat parties all over London. Zeb’s international career began to take off around this time, when he landed his first gigs at Shambala in Vienna and at a Zilch promotions night in Amsterdam playing alongside Laurie Immersion. He also held down a monthly residency at Feverish, in Bristol’s Lakota Nightclub, and made nationwide guest appearances at Escape from Samsara, Pendragon , Havok , Eurobeat and Homegrown.

Following the success of their regular parties around London, Zeb and Lawrence launched the infamous club night, Trancentral. Hailed as London’s best underground techno night at the time, Trancentral remained a permanent fixture in the party scene, until it closed its doors in early 2001.

During their partnership , Zeb and Lawrence also started a label called ORGANGRINDER, and Zeb released his first two 12”s ORGANGRINDER 01 DOGS ON ROPE, and ORGANGRINDER 02 WIERDO MAGNET. Other artists feature on the label included Guy “Geezer” McAffer, Gizelle and Lawrie Immersion among others.

Zeb then embarked on a solo Australasian tour, which saw him play at parties and club’s throughout Australia and New Zealand. Upon returning to London Zeb carried on with the Restless Native sound system. Then in early 2003, Zeb returned to the studio and produced a highly successful 12” release with Guy “Geezer” McAffer, entitled “DJ Zebedee meets JAH Scoop” on the Hi Wire label.

Since then he has played worldwide in Venezuela, Brazil, Czech Republic, Portugal, Italy, Poland and Japan, in addition to local gigs in all over UK and Scotland, in places such as Edinburgh, Bristol, Manchester, Bournemouth, Birmingham and Southampton.

GIZELLE REBEL YELLE kicked off May with special guest DJ DUTTI B (short for Dutti Breakz). This month’s show was a bit of an electronic melting pot experiment, mixing up different styles from Acid to Techno to Breaks to Drum & Bass and Jungle, under the influence of DUTTI B, aka ‘AJ’.

This is a *REPEAT* recording originally recorded live on OPTICAL RADIO last week on Friday 2 May. So if you missed it, here’s another chance to listen. Enjoy.

Dutti B is known for mashing up the dancefloor with her bass driven style of phat Breaks, Drum n Bass and Jungle grooves, but she is also partial to a bit of London Acid Techno. So don’t pigeon hole this show… come and join in the fun as we break down the barriers and space travel through the realms of electronic dance! We hope you enjoy the show… Peace! X

* DUTTI B *

Dutti B, short for Dutti Breakz, is just what it says on the tin.

Her heavy bass and strong melody style of Drum & Bass matched with intelligent mixing skills, Dutti B (aka AJ) is a favourite choice for the foot loose raver.

One part of Tunnel Crew Sound System, Dutti is a forerunner of Drum & Bass in her local scene and has built up a strong following in the underground dance music movement as well as performing at premier venues such as Brixton Mass, SEOne, Clock Works (Angel), Bar Rumba (Movement), Kef (Jungle Nation), Lakota (Bristol), The Custard Factory (Birmingham), The Coven (Oxford), Play (Reading) and many, many more.

Since coming 2nd place in the Binary Motives DJ competition, judged by Pascal and Rude Bwoy Monty (Ganja Record/True Playaz), the opportunities have been endless from Djing at festivals worldwide to holding DJ workshops with aspiring young people.

Right now Dutti B is concentrating on other music projects such as managing the Acid Techno side of the Beat Bucket label along with the one and only Mark EG, moving further afield into the big world of underground dance music. Always looking for new challenges so expect the unexpected from this adventurer.

If you are an Acid Techno producer and spend most of your spare time making music then send AJ your tunes. Message her on FB https://www.facebook.com/Dutti.ness

Gizelle Rebel Yelle
Celebrating 25 years of DJ-ing as a pioneering female DJ artist on the London underground scene, Gizelle ‘Rebel Yelle’ started playing music in the heady days of Acid House in the late 80’s spinning acid house alongside the likes of Mr C, Evil Eddie Richards and Mickey Finn in London.
From this baptism of fire, her love of all things Acid and Techno drew her to the growing underground DIY squat raves and festival dance scene of the early 90’s in London where she teamed up with Lawrie Immersion and the Liberator DJ’s in 1994, through the Zero Gravity & Farside parties, to play out every weekend in the mid-late 90’s on the legendary ‘Immersion Sound System’ as resident DJ. From this weekly techno extravaganza, the underground sound of London Acid Techno was delivered into the world and has been entertaining ever since.
On the London underground free party scene, the mid-late 90’s were truly revolutionary times and Gizelle became the main female driving force behind the decks pushing the new and exciting sound of London Acid Techno. Passionately driven by the scene and its political causes, she worked hard for the scene travelling and playing around the UK and worldwide every weekend building links with the ever growing acid techno global community and inspiring women to get behind the decks. More
During this time, Gizelle also produced music under the guise of ‘Rebel Yelle’ for the Liberators record label ‘Stay Up Forever’ followed by more collaborations with fellow comrades Guy McAffer ‘Geezer’, Dave The Drummer, DDR, DJ Ant and Carl Hendrickse, Lawrie Immersion on labels Stay Up Forever, Cluster, Smitten, Off The Wall and more. At the end of the 90’s Gizelle started to get more involved behind the scenes working in music distribution and for an independent vinyl pressing plant run by an underground collective, building further links worldwide, distributing UK acid/techno and running the label ‘Antidote’ whilst at Infectious Distribution. It was also through these distribution channels that she began exploring new sounds in techno and embraced the more experimental side of wonky techno.
It is all these experiences and knowledge that makes her the legend. But her mission never ends… Gizelle’s passion for music and DJ-ing has kept her interest in the ever evolving life of the underground dance scene and its entirety to this day. Playing a mixture of techno and all things acid, old skool acid house, funky beats and wonky sounds… Gizelle also loves experimental electronica, breaks, jungle, deep house, dub reggae, funk & disco, ska, punk music and much more, which reflects in her musical vibe.
So there you have it… Gizelle ‘Rebel Yelle’ is the real deal, a DJ with the experience and a force that comes from being a true underground legend. To this day she still remains passionate about the music, creative expression, underground parties and the communities it brings together.
And what’s new for 2013? From February 2013, tune into www.opticalradio.net every fortnight on Fridays 9pm-11pm for the ‘Rebel Yelle Show’ and hear for yourself. Gizelle ‘Rebel Yelle’ will be spinning a mixture of old skool, acid house, techno and more, plus inviting guest underground DJ’s from various genres to come and have a spin on the decks too.
