DJ Kenny Mulligan

Kenny Mulligan born in the south side of Glasgow Rutherglen,Scotland, UK, started experimenting with noise from an early age where i was usually found wiring up bits of equipment , usually playing older friends and family members psychedelic and avant garde ,psyche rock until i discovered electro and hip hop, i started DJ’ing in the early 80’s with hip hop , at the age of 12 influenced by Kraftwerk ,can ,Jarre and the early electro sounds coming from the USA in the 80’s ,DJing at local youth clubs with a blend of abstract 60’s and electronica before moving to london ,I became involved with the early acid house movement and went out raving in 1988,i also lived quite high up so i could receive all the pirate radio stations in London,so i took notes and also purchased a set of Technics 1210’s, after spending days in record shops in London buying latest Acid -New Beat -& Techno I eventually returned to Glasgow around 1989, where i was given my first DJ set with Colin *& Mel Barr at the Batcave and sub club under 18’s as they couldn’t believe this young kid from south side came back with some gems ,then i went on to play harder and deeper acid & techno from Europe i played Industria , the Mardi gras , hacienda (Glasgow ), and other nights in and around Scotland, returning back to London and i found myself a regular in the free party scene 92> various squat party’s and industrial buildings where I progressed more into the sound of European techno ,and of course the birth of UK Acid Techno, sound systems in UK ,not DJ’ing in them all ,but attending some of the best party’s -big shout out to virus sound system , Jiba, vox populi, insanity, Large Sallad Discoteque , Liberators , Spiral Tribe , Exodus Collective,Immersion , and many many more who kept me moving .t .Now over the last few years ive been playing party’s such as Deep Acid ,Retro Traxx festival ,Pirate Club, and some warehouses in London ,i’ve played on some web radio’s northen underground, stationsonparticulier (Belgium) and a hell of a lot of others , i like raw Techno and dark acid i can play it fast slow ,hard whatever ! … other Names i’ve worked under have been DJ Kinetic -Tripwitch and most recently again an old one i used back in 1990 – Acid Army, soon my own productions will be released under the name Dark Art Masquerade now i co-ordinating The Acid Zone Radio monthly From Belgium and i ma champion of original acid sound of jack and the techno acid sound of Europe and the new acid wave . i hope you enjoy the sounds as much as i do ,! Love Peace ………K 🙂

Kenny Mulligan is a true champion for the original Acid sound and earlier European Techno. He loves to play the more deeper and raw side of Techno and Acid, and is currently into the new wave of Acid music coming out of the UK and Europe right now.
He then got his first set of Technics turntables and spent days in record shops buying the latest Acid, New Beat and Techno vinyl releases. Around 1989 he returned back to Glasgow with his new collection of vinyl and at the age of 16 was given his first DJ gig at the legendary Bat Cave (first acid house venue in Glasgow) playing at an under 18’s rave. The promoters could not believe it when they heard this young kid playing such quality music.
Following this, Kenny went on to play the harder and deeper sounds of acid & techno from Europe and Detroit. He started promoting parties for young adults and became the local link between Glasgow and London, exposing the latest dance tunes bought on his visits to London.
In 1993, he came back to live in London and instantly connected with the free party scene, hitting various squat parties and witnessing the birth of UK/London Acid Techno, following sound systems such as Virus, Jiba, Vox Populi, Insanity, Large Salad Discoteque , Spiral Tribe, Exodus Collective, Immersion and the Liberators DJ’s.Around this time, he also formed the ‘Acid Army’ crew with fellow DJ’s and artists who made it their mission to promote the more underground and heavier side of Techno.
At the end of the 90’s, Kenny took a few years out to concentrate on family life, but returned some years later to follow his passion for music and reconnected with the underground party scene. Since then he has been developing his own sound and played some storming sets at parties such as Deep Acid, Retro Traxx Festival, Pirate Club, Aurora Festival, Virus Sound System and many other warehouse raves in and around London and UK.
Kenny is Currently involved in promoting different artists and partys such as LUCID in London , VORTEKS Sound System Techno nights l in Wales and Bristol, and is a member of other collectives and helps promote party’s and plays on radios in London & around the UK.
He also runs the ‘Philanthropy’ party benefit nights, which aim to raise money for a London homeless project, bringing together like-minded DJ’s and electronic artists for this worthy cause. Further to this, he has built strong connections in Belgium and Holland, coordinating radio shows for Stationsonparticulier (Belgium) and his current monthly radio show ‘Elemental’ for Pure Radio (Holland), which has showcased some quality DJ’s and producers who play Acid and Techno , and also on the Sundays playing eclectic Chill out sets where Kenny delves into his rich knowledge of ambient and avant garde , eclectic taste in sounds far from the harbour walls of the usual electronic music he is usually known to play . Recently on pure radio Kenny Reached a personal achievement , by warming up for his life long idols KRAFTWERK . Further more now in 2014 Kenny is focusing on his own productions under the guise of Dark Art Masquerade. A Record label is also planned for 2014 and a new radio show beginning in march 2014 on the community based OPTICAL RADIO in London where he will interview guest DJ’s and Bands about their career’s & their past and present projects .
If you think you want any help in promotion of fancy yourself playing on one of his radio shows or need help with promotion, then send an email or inbox Kenny on his facebook page

SPOTLIGHT Show With Kenny Mulligan & Special Guest ThatBoyTim

Tune into Kenny Mulligan here
Hi there , well after a manic summer and a “bit” of a break, from the Radio ,i’m happy to return to my new found Home at Optical Radio
to do another Spotlight Show .
This Friday i will be going through some of the upcoming & recent releases on my techno / acid / Electro Radar after that i will be joined with a guy who ive recently connected with since his move to the big smoke .. THATBOYTIM
thatboytim – a recent blow-in to the London scene – Tim first made his mark co-founding Takeover Records in Belfast circa 2000. (laterly Takeover Recordings – ) Fuelled by a healthy distaste for the middle-of-the-road staleness prevalent at the time the crew looked to Detroit Electro, Chicago jack trax and DIY punk attitude for inspiration – concucting a brew of bass, broken beats that we’re picked up on by the likes of 2 Lone swordsmen, Decal, Paula Temple and Laurent Garnier.
Tim spent 2000-2013 in Dublin – enjoying the superior record shopping and developing as a gigging dj. From the techno/bass parties of Electric City and Kaboogie to festivals such as Sibin and Electric Picnic to support slots alongside Legowelt, Kid 606 and The Orb and a 9 year residency at busy city centre bar Hogans it’s fair to say that a lot of ground has been covered.
Alongside fellow Dublin DJ Platinum Ray Tim set up BOP GUN in 2012 – an event exploring the funk-time continuum with a heavy nod to the influence of George Clinton. Tim is now running BOP GUN parties in London with their debut being made at Finsbury Park’s Silver Bullet last month.
